Medical Interest

One of the most daunting changes in the medical industry has been the HIPAA regulations enacted over the past few years. Most medical offices are already familiar with the buzz about it. And if your office is associated with a hospital (or other entity covered by the law), you have seen the paperwork. But where do you stand regarding compliance?

A side note: If you attempt to review the statutes, the attorneys at Health and Human Services have used a really hard to read 2 column format. It is almost impossible to read online, so we suggest printing it out.

View the Combined Regulation Text (as of February 2006). This is an unofficial version that illustrates all the regulations in one document. The official version of all federal regulations is published in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). For particular regulations pertaining to HIPAA Security and Privacy, view the official version at 45 C.F.R. Part 164, Subpart C-Security Standards for the Protection of Electronic Protected Health Information; then check section 312 – Technical Safeguards.
