Forensic is one of those words whose true meaning is often misconceived. More recently, TV shows have overused the word and attempted to define it as investigative.

However, we can find the true definition at Merriam-Webster:

1:  belonging to, used in, or suitable to courts of judicature or to public discussion and debate
2:  argumentative, rhetorical
3:  relating to or dealing with the application of scientific knowledge to legal problems <forensic medicine> <forensic science> <forensic pathologist> <forensic experts>

Those who deal in forensics, like myself, are in actuality working for attorneys. And my forensic results have won millions of dollars for firms, states and individuals that were involved.
